This is an entry-level unit standard for people to demonstrate a basic understanding of selecting, using and caring for the correct type of engineering hand tools. 

People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of the selection of different types of hand tools; select and use engineering hand tools to meet task requirements; and care for engineering hand tools. 

Engineering hand tools applicable to this unit standard fall within the following categories:

 Cutting tools: examples – hacksaws, chisels, files, hole punches, tin snips. 

Assembly tools: examples – hammers, punches, vices, clamps, spanners, wrenches (including impact and torque), pliers.

Insert Hacksaw photographic evidence	Hack saw  Write a short description / explanation of the task you used the hack saw for - be specific here is me using a 32 teeth hack saw to cut my work. i am using my thumb as a guide for the hack saw
Insert Metal file photographic evidence	Metal file  Write a short description / explanation of the task you used the tool for - be specific here is me using the metal file to take away any sharp peaces of metal
Insert Tin snips photographic evidence	Tin snips Write a short description / explanation of the task you used the tool  for - be specific here i am using the tin snips to cut the material to get the right measurements.

Assembly tools

Insert Hammer photographic evidence	Hammer Write a short description / explanation of the task you used the tool for - be specific here i am using the hammer and centre punch to make a little dent so the drill bit point will go into the dent so it will drill easier

What have I learnt? to have one hand at the front and one hand at the back so then it makes it easier to cut the metal that goes the same for the legs

What was the most difficult tool to use and why? learning how to use the welder

What did I enjoy? welding and grinding the work

What would I do differently next time? not stand around and talk
